Currently, 88% of the U.S.’s recruiters now tap into LinkedIn to find qualified job candidates, according to a recent report conducted by the site. In short, LinkedIn has become the first, and top, platform that recruiters and HR pros access to do job searches and build their candidate pool. Is your profile being found?

On your profile the first 30 seconds of a reader counts, so be certain to have a killer summary. Make certain to include these four things:

1) Engaging and Original: This section is, truly, your playground. You have 2,000 characters to tell your story, in your own words. Take the opportunity to showcase who you are as a professional and what makes you interesting, memorable, and extraordinary.

2) First Person: LinkedIn is designed to facilitate conversation between people, remember LinkedIn is a “social” platform so be social and imagine having a conversation with your audience.

3) Angled Towards Specific People: Before you write a single word in that summary, ask yourself: Who am I talking to? Answering this question will help you craft a message that showcases you in a way that aligns with your most important audience. How will you capture their attention?

4) Be Clear on What You Want the Reader to Do Next: Spell out to your network and visitors what you’re looking to accomplish, and what you’d like for them to do next. Give them a call to action.

Writing an engaging summary to your future employer is where the conversation all starts!
